Wasabi Expands to Italy with New Storage Region in Milan

September 9, 2024By Laurie Mitchell

It’s an exciting time in the world of European data. Since the advent of GDPR, enterprises in the region are seeking to store their data in their country of origin with the aid of trusted, local brands.

Now – our first Wasabi public vault in Italy has opened in Milan and we are excited to be partnering with Retelit to expand into the fast growing Italian market.  The Milan storage region is immediately available to customers and partners simply by selecting eu-south-1 within your Wasabi storage account. Since first expanding to Amsterdam in 2019, we’ve added three Wasabi storage regions in Europe. Our newest addition brings our EMEA total to five!

Our service expansion accompanies an explosion of demand for Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage in Europe.  Top channel and managed service providers in the region are choosing to offer Wasabi including Sielco, Bechtle, and Like SRL as well as value added distributors like TDSynnex, Exclusive Networks, ELOVADE, and Systematika. We also expanded the offering of our Wasabi Ball Transfer Appliance to Europe to help our customers make smoother transitions to the cloud.

The power of partnership

Our Milan storage region comes courtesy of a strategic partnership with Retelit, a leader in the Italian telecommunications sector who, in addition to hosting Wasabi’s Milan storage region in their data center, will also provide Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage as part of their core services offerings for both corporate and SME customers. “Our partnership with Wasabi strengthens our position as a leader in the technology infrastructure sector and enables us to provide our customers with a superior storage solution that is both cost-effective and high-performing,” said Mimmo Zappi, Chief Commercial Officer of Retelit. “By enhancing our portfolio with Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage, we are equipping businesses in Italy with a game-changing solution that delivers unmatched performance, scalability, and affordability for their organizations.”

Retelit also shares our sustainability mission; their Avalon 3 data center is powered by 100% renewable energy sources and is designed with natural cooling systems to further reduce energy use. “Retelit has a long-standing reputation for delivering cutting-edge technology solutions to businesses across Italy,” said Zappi. "That’s why we are really proud that Wasabi chose our Avalon 3 data center in Milan to host its first-ever Italian storage region.” On top of being highly sustainable, Avalon 3 is well positioned in the region to interconnect with the over 165 Carriers, OTTs, cloud providers, and content delivery platforms central to the Italian marketplace. It has also been given the highest rating by ANSI/TIA and certified by the Uptime Institute for the greatest availability.

We could not be more excited to expand predictably-priced cloud object storage to Italian enterprise and SMB customers. Explore all of Wasabi’s global availability listed on our storage regions page.
