FISU Expands Access to Game Clips and Images with Active Cloud Archiving
Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage provides cost-effective, high-performance media storage for university sports clips and recordings.
Wasabi Reserved Capacity Storage makes budgeting far easier than with competitors who can change pricing anytime and charge fees.

Overview
The International Federation for University Sports (FISU) is the worldwide governing body for university sports. FISU records 600-1000 hours of games each year and hosts multi-sport tournaments in the summer and fall every other year. By moving game recordings and clips to Wasabi, the team expanded access to its media and unlocked new distribution channels.

Challenges
Before moving to Wasabi, FISU relied on a centralized NAS system and a third-party production partner to manage its video archive, which meant limited control without search capability, and infrastructure that wasn't built for modern media distribution.
Disorganized archive
Game recordings were stored in siloed, untagged systems. Finding a specific clip meant someone had to manually dig through the data.
Limited control over infrastructure
TV production content was handled by an external partner, leaving FISU without direct access to or ownership of its media assets.
Inability to scale distribution
FISU wanted national federations, continental confederations, and athletes to access and share content, and its legacy setup couldn't support it at scale.
Unpredictable storage costs
Per-access, read, and write charges from competing cloud providers made it difficult to forecast budgets, especially as content volume and access needs were set to grow.
Solution
To expand access to its recordings, FISU adopted ScorePlay’s media asset management. The tool automatically creates clips from game recordings, which are hosted in Wasabi.
Seamless integration: ScorePlay integrates directly with Wasabi, automatically hosting new clips and game recordings
Searchable storage: With video clips stored in Wasabi, FISU can access any clip in a few clicks, instead of digging through recordings on the local NAS.
Predictable pricing model: Reserved Capacity Storage (RCS) lets the team lock in pricing for five years, allowing them to forecast budgeting as their storage needs grow
Results
The transition to ScorePlay and Wasabi dramatically increased the usability of FISU’s video archives. Now, the organization can access any image or clip in seconds and distribute it through ScorePlay and its featured athletes.
Wider distribution: Game clips hosted on Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage reach viewers faster than they did from the local NAS.
Predictable costs: Wasabi’s lack of egress and API fees allows FISU to use and distribute its videos without incurring unpredictable charges.
Enhanced scalability: With Reserved Capacity Storage (RCS), FISU could grow its media archive without buying additional NAS hardware or dealing with unpredictable cloud storage prices.
