Overview
After successfully adopting Wasabi for critical backups, Berry College returned to expand its use of cloud storage. First, to offload growing volumes of surveillance video to the cloud; and second, to extend storage for its marketing team’s 20 years of archived media files. These additions reduced costs, simplified storage management, and supported long-term digital growth.

Higher Education
USE CASE:
Active archiving
Surveillance storage
Challenges
Berry College faced growing storage demands from two departments. Surveillance systems generated 4–5 TB of footage daily, filling local servers and complicating backup. At the same time, the marketing team’s archive server was nearly full, with decades of photos and videos that needed long-term retention.
Surveillance storage overload
The college is required to retain surveillance footage for a designated retention period. However, the capacity of local servers falls short of that requirement, making compliance difficult without investing in costly storage upgrades.
Limited archival space
The marketing team’s decades of media content were outgrowing local infrastructure.
Backups at risk
Full surveillance servers left little room for proper backup or disaster recovery planning.
On-site expansion too costly
Scaling physical infrastructure would require major capital investment.
Constantly growing data volumes
Video and photo libraries continue to expand, with no signs of slowing.

Solution
To address its expanding storage needs, Berry College implemented Wasabi Surveillance Cloud for surveillance video footage and Wasabi Cloud NAS for marketing archives.
Surveillance videos are stored in the cloud for DR/backup purposes. Several weeks of footage is kept on-site for quick retrieval, then removed from the local server. This allows compliance with the retention policy without adding local storage.
For its marketing archives, Berry College now archives decades of media to the cloud while still enabling access on demand. IT plans to eventually migrate the entire marketing archive off physical servers.
Key Features
Sustainable growth
Wasabi offers scalable storage solutions that support the college’s ongoing expansion of camera systems and media content.
Seamless integrations
Wasabi integrated easily with Berry’s Genetec VMS and standard NAS environments.
Simplified disaster recovery
Moving video footage and archives off-site strengthens continuity planning.
No egress or API fees
Data remains accessible anytime without incurring retrieval costs.
Results
With Wasabi Surveillance Cloud and Cloud NAS, Berry College now has a flexible, affordable storage model for two data-heavy departments. Wasabi helped this small IT team reduce infrastructure strain, improve backup processes, and enable long-term data access.
Avoided major CapEx – Cloud storage proved more affordable than expanding on-prem infrastructure for both use cases.
Reduced IT burden – Wasabi’s simple setup and management saves staff time and resources.
Always-on access – With no retrieval fees, marketing and security teams can access data freely.
Enhanced scalability – The college can now support new buildings, cameras, and campaigns without storage constraints.
