Nearline Storage

What is nearline storage?

In the context of cloud computing, nearline storage environments are [object] storage areas designed for data that are accessed less frequently than hot storage, typically once a month or less. It's considered a mid-tier storage option for data that’s not necessarily archival but doesn’t need to be accessed frequently. Nearline storage typically requires quick response time for when you do have to access your data.

Data typically stored in nearline storage

Nearline storage is best suited for data types like backups, mid-term business or compliance records, or project files, all examples of data that don’t need to be accessed frequently, but also aren’t archival.

Wasabi’s approach to nearline storage

We believe data is one of your most important assets. With Wasabi, you can afford to store all your data, regardless of how often you need to retrieve it, without fees, complexity, or worry. Our single tier of universal cloud storage is as fast as our competitors' fastest tiers but priced closer to cold storage.

FAQ

What is the difference between nearline and cold storage?

Nearline storage has to be more readily available than cold storage. Cold storage includes archived records such as: backup data, research data, and media archives that don’t need to be accessed frequently.

Is data in nearline storage expensive to store?

In traditional cloud tiering, nearline storage would be less expensive than hot storage. With Wasabi, we treat all data types equal and store them in one affordable hot tier.
