I sit down at my laptop a lot of evenings since the pandemic began looking for some way to tune out the bad news and all the uncertainties that accompany life in the spring of 2020. I open up Avid’s Pro Tools and see that one of my bandmates has added to our latest creation, a downtempo synth-pop number called ‘New Fade’. Listening to the latest iterations of the track inspires what I was searching for: an escape from the here and now via the flow state of creation. I add a tasty guitar overdub and text my bandmates to check out the results. Success!

Of course, this kind of remote collaboration isn’t necessarily brand new, but it’s taken on new meaning since people have been confined to their homes during the COVID-19 outbreak. Despite the obvious limitations created by social distancing measures, Media & Entertainment professionals and amateurs alike can take advantage of cloud collaboration to edit, mix and deliver content that looks and sounds great.

Where does Wasabi fit in? Well, one of our valued partners is Marquis Broadcast. Marquis Workspace Backup is a backup and DR solution specifically for Avid media production environments and Avid NEXIS/ISIS shared storage.

Haven’t heard of Avid? You’ve definitely seen or heard products made in their software. Avid is an American technology and multimedia company which specializes in audio and video; specifically, digital non-linear editing (NLE) systems, video editing software, audio editing software, management and distribution services and more. Avid products are used in the television and video industry to create television shows, feature films and commercials. Media Composer, a professional non-linear editing system, is Avid's flagship while Pro Tools, which I mentioned above, is the industry standard Digital Audio Workstation.

Our partner Marquis uniquely understands Avid language and protocols and uses advanced analytics to provide the fastest recovery to production, reducing recovery times to hours as opposed to the days or weeks with other solutions. Along with Marquis, we’ve  launched a 30-day trial of Workspace Backup and Wasabi hot cloud storage for a complete cloud-based disaster recovery solution for business-critical Avid works-in-progress. Media and entertainment are even more important now in the face of unprecedented challenges. Not only do we need the human connection provided by the music and video created and stored in the cloud, the act of creating can be the medicine we need to get through.
