Overview

Pollard Thomas Edwards is a London-based architectural practice specializing in the design of homes, neighborhoods, and public and mixed-use buildings. The practice struggled with the backup and disaster recovery service delivered by their previous managed service provider. The setup involved syncing the firm’s backups to an off-site data center, which could then be restored to infrastructure hosted by the MSP. The service was inefficient and costly, and provided no visibility or control to properly oversee or test the system.

Pain points:

  • High costs limited their ability to adequately fund other critical business initiatives.

  • Lack of visibility and control – made it impossible to ensure the system was healthy.

  • Disaster recovery testing consultancy fees did not have access to test backups themselves and brought unsustainable egress costs.

Solution

To address these challenges, Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects partnered with Waterstons, an experienced managed service provider operating in the UK and Australia. Together, they evaluated various cloud storage solutions and ultimately selected Wasabi for its cost-effectiveness, data immutability, and seamless integration with Veeam, their backup software of choice.

With their backups stored in Wasabi, the practice can now use their Veeam server to restore directly to their own Azure tenancy. This helps to drastically lower costs, enhance their ability to test their backups, and recover faster from disasters.

Key Features

Backup and disaster recovery

Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage as storage target that integrates with Veeam to provide a more cost-effective and efficient solution

Immutability

Wasabi Object Lock ensures their backups are protected from unauthorized modifications or deletions.

Data types

The customer primarily deals with file-heavy data (e.g., Adobe files, Autodesk models.)

Results

By integrating Wasabi with Veeam, the practice established a cost-effective, flexible, and efficient data management strategy that helped them regain control over their backup processes while ensuring data security, reliability, and rapid recovery.

Benefits realized:
  • Cost savings: Estimated savings of thousands per year by switching to Wasabi, allowing for investment in additional cybersecurity tools and improvements in overall technology posture.

  • Enhanced control: The ability to restore data directly to their Azure environment increased flexibility and confidence in disaster recovery.
