Direct Veeam-Wasabi Connectivity Coming Soon
I had the good fortune to attend the VeeamON 2018 conference last week in Chicago. Around 2,200 attendees were on hand to learn about Veeam’s intelligent data management solutions and the company’s vision for the future of the “always-on,” multi-cloud enterprise. This event was an exciting opportunity to meet all of the Veeam executives and learn about their strategies for 2018 and beyond.
Wasabi is a Veeam cloud alliance partner and we collectively work to provide enterprise management solutions that work across disparate virtual environments to keep data active and available, regardless of where it might reside. Veeam’s cloud alliance partner team provides outstanding support to emerging cloud providers such as Wasabi and it was great to meet this team in person at the event.
Native Veeam S3 Interface On Deck For Later This Year
I also had the pleasure of meeting with several of the Veeam executives, including Anton Gostev (SVP, Product Management). It was from Anton’s highly attended technical sessions that I learned that direct Veeam-to-Wasabi connectivity is imminent. As part of the new Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4 feature, it will be possible to extend Veeam scale-out backup repository capacity with a direct interface to S3-compatible object storage like Wasabi, without the need for any other products in the middle.
Wasabi will be participating in the private beta of Update 4 this summer to validate full compatibility and to ensure that we can provide Day 1 support for this exciting new capability so that all Veeam users can immediately start leveraging the benefits of our unbeatable object storage prices.
Other Wasabi-Veeam Integration Approaches
In addition to the forthcoming native S3 interface on Veeam, there are several other approaches that our customers can use for interconnecting their existing Veeam environments to Wasabi. These include products from CloudBerry Lab, BridgeSTOR, and StarWind Software. Additional details can be found in our knowledge base article on this topic.
DataLabs and GDPR Compliance
Veeam also announced DataLabs, a new core component of the Veeam Hyper-Availability Platform. With it, developers and operations teams can use production-like instances of virtual environments on demand in the form of isolated “sandboxes” to experiment with all kinds of things. For example, they can try out new use cases and validate updates, security vulnerabilities, forensics, and compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which takes effect this Friday.
The GDPR imposes strict guidelines for global businesses around the storage and management of personal data. One of its tenets is that you must be able to see at any moment what data you have stored about an individual and have the capability to erase it at the request of that individual.
Veeam and Wasabi both work to keep your data active and always available, on demand, which helps you fulfill this GDPR requirement. Wasabi hot cloud storage is 6x faster than the next fastest solution, but only one-fifth the price. Unlike other cloud services, we don’t charge for egress or API calls, so you’re not penalized for accessing your data. As such, we help in this and many other ways to make sure you remain in compliance with GDPR.
