Fully utilize the power of the hybrid cloud with QNAP and Wasabi

Enterprises that utilize a hybrid cloud approach to data storage may find it difficult to find the right balance between their cloud and on-premise storage. A variety of tasks, from backup to development to analysis, require seamless interplay between the cloud and local storage. Add to this the complicated storage tiers used by many major cloud vendors and what should be the simple act of accessing a digital asset can become arduous. The challenges of speed and unpredictable charges when retrieving data from the cloud complicate the matter even further.

QNAP Cloud Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage application that connects your local storage to Wasabi cloud storage. Featuring protocol conversion, the QNAP Cloud Storage Gateway converts Wasabi cloud storage into storage spaces or volumes, allowing you to access cloud-based data using file-based protocols (e.g. SMB, FTP, NFS, AFP) or block-based protocol (e.g. iSCSI). This allows seamless transfer of local data to cloud storage via QNAP Cloud Storage Gateway without modifying local applications. Whether it’s enterprise IT that requires a hybrid cloud environment or back up data generated by local applications, QNAP Cloud Storage Gateway can fulfill application needs while providing low-latency access to data in Wasabi cloud storage.

File-based cloud storage gateway: HybridMount

With Wasabi’s low-cost hot cloud storage, you can store daily-use data in Wasabi’s fast, affordable cloud storage. QNAP file-based cloud storage gateway, HybridMount, lets you access your hot data stored in Wasabi as quickly as accessing it locally with cache in NAS. With HybridMount, you can easily create a global file sync and share architecture for your company in which Wasabi cloud storage plays a data center role and QNAP NAS is the cloud gateway for different offices worldwide. Data is easily shared between different users and accessed with low-latency, all on a single, hot tier free from egress charges and API request fees.

Block-based cloud storage gateway: VJBOD Cloud

QNAP’s block-based cloud storage gateway, VJBOD Cloud, can mount public object storage to NAS as a LUN. Businesses can back up production servers to the LUN and then back up to Wasabi cloud storage via the Cloud Storage Gateway. VJBOD Cloud features a Local Stored Mode that keeps a copy of all data on the local storage. If the cloud connection is disconnected, your application won’t be affected. Only block-based LUN changes, such as addition, modification, or deletion will be transmitted. This greatly reduces bandwidth usage and accelerates data transfer.

Flexible Backup Solution: Hybrid Backup Sync

Organizations storing large amounts of data in NAS can benefit from QNAP’s consolidated backup, recovery, and synchronization application. Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS 3) allows for the transfer of data to local, remote, and cloud storage locations for optimal data security. HBS 3 features QuDedup technology to deduplicate data at the source, reducing overall data size and saving bandwidth and backup time. When backing up to Wasabi these benefits are further extended as Wasabi’s price and performance keep storage costs low and speeds high.
