Everyone is Moving to the Cloud

Dell’s customers are increasingly looking to shrink their data center footprint to save costs, reduce complexity, and escape the time-consuming upgrade cycle. The cloud helps address these challenges for data protection while providing easy scalability with lower storage costs and is ideal for backing up and archiving data. Unlike an on-premises storage solution, cloud storage is bottomless. The cloud doesn’t run out of capacity, and you can use as much as you want when you want and only pay for what you consume. Additionally, the cloud is available worldwide, anywhere there is an Internet connection, and can provide added levels of protection to combat bad actors and ransomware attacks. Just as important, the economics of the cloud can lead to reduced costs of retaining all that critical data when stored with the right provider.

The Dell Experience

During my four-plus years at Dell Technologies, I focused mainly on data protection and archiving. I ran customer and partner advisory programs where we gained direct feedback on our data protection solutions and direction. I also worked with an excellent team of product managers and their leaders.  That experience provided an excellent foundation for what customers are challenged with and the direction they want to go. That direction is the cloud, and the challenge is its often out-of-control and unpredictable costs typical of the hyperscalers.

Dell Technology World 2023

In my time there, I have seen Dell increasingly embrace the cloud with many of their solutions, including their DDVE and Cloud Tier solutions. Dell Cloud Tier allows customers to easily move copies of their data into S3-compatible object storage repositories for data protection, archiving, and cyber resiliency use cases. In Dell’s words, “Cloud Tier provides best-of-breed technology that will allow businesses to gain the advantages of cloud while lowering overall TCO. With Cloud Tier, data is natively tiered to the public, private, or hybrid cloud for long-term retention.”   At this year’s Dell Technologies World (DTW), I look forward to seeing all the ways Dell will demonstrate how these products can leverage the clear benefits of S3 cloud storage. As a premier provider of S3-compatible Hot Cloud Storage, Wasabi Technologies will be there too!
