January 9, 2018

BOSTONJan. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Wasabi, the hot storage company, announced today that it has successfully completed a rigorous audit of its hot storage cloud solution for healthcare data management security. The audit was performed by a third-party attestation and compliance company, and validated that Wasabi has met strict compliance requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) for the way it stores and protects electronic health information.

Healthcare providers, insurers and clearinghouses can now use Wasabi to store and maintain electronic healthcare records with the comfort and assurance that Wasabi uses security best practices and technologies to ensure the physical security of its facilities and to maintain the confidentiality, privacy and integrity of protected health information (PHI) including electronic data and digital records throughout their lifecycle. Architected for the next generation of data needs, Wasabi takes a “defense-in-depth” approach, employing multiple layers of security for ultimate protection in accordance with HIPAA security guidelines. Wasabi ensures the physical security of its data center, institutes strong authentication and authorization controls for all its cloud compute, storage and networking infrastructure, and encrypts data at rest and in transit to safeguard confidential patient information.

Healthcare organizations can now use Wasabi for low-cost primary storage for on-premises or cloud-based workloads, economical secondary storage for backup, disaster recovery in the cloud, or data migration initiatives, and as an affordable and reliable archival storage for long-term data retention. Wasabi is ideal for a wide variety of healthcare applications including electronic records, medical imaging, healthcare IoT applications, and for research and development purposes.

“Data safety, security and integrity are core philosophies and practices at Wasabi,” David Friend, co-founder and CEO said. “We are pleased to earn our HIPAA and HITECH compliance validation to provide affordable cloud storage for organizations dealing with PHI so they can easily and securely store valuable and sensitive data. Wasabi is engineered for extreme data durability and integrity, and will protect PHI from the most common causes of data loss such as accidental file deletions, or tampering from viruses and ransomware that can impact precious healthcare data.”
